For an ideal SLOTDOG experience use casing-free/skinless hot dogs. Natural or collagen casing hot dogs/sausages have a skin that is usually too thick and hard to slot leading to ruptured dogs, so go with a good old skinless dog and slot to you heart’s content! Slightly firm, fridge temperature (34-36 F) hot dogs work best, as over-thawing can make the hot dogs too squishy to slot, and no one likes a smooshed dog! If they're squishy and you're in a pinch, putting them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before slotting can help.
We recommend slotting both sides as it prevents the dog from curling up on you as the slots expand, but it's really up to personal preference. Simply press SLOTDOG down with an end to end rocking motion on two opposite sides of a hot dog, then toss it on the BBQ and watch as it transforms in front of your eyes!
