Having trouble with your SLOTDOG?

In general, SLOTDOG works will with popular national and store brand SKINLESS hot dogs. You can find a list of Recommended Brands here.

* All beef hot dogs taste better but need to be colder for easier slotting. 15-20 minutes in the freezer before slotting with a left-to-right rocking motion will make it easier.

    1. USE ONLY Skinless Hot Dogs without any form of casing/skin. SLOTDOG is not intended for use on Sausages, Bratwursts (Brats), Smokies or Hot Dogs with a Casing/Skin (if unsure check the ingredients list for “natural” or “collagen” “casing”.
    2. The hot dogs must be Cold and Firm directly from the fridge, not room temperature as they will be too soft to slot and may squish.
    3. We suggest placing hot dogs in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before slotting to further improve results, especially when using All Beef and Jumbo hot dogs as they need to be very cold and firm due to their size and consistency.
    4. Place the hot dog on a firm surface, like a cutting board (not on a grill or cooking surface). With both hands, Press SLOTDOG down with even pressure using a repeating left to right rocking motion (not front to back). This allows the blades to slice in easier and more evenly. All Beef and Jumbo hot dogs may require a bit more pressure to slot correctly due to their size and consistency.
    5. Some brands of All Beef hot dogs perform very differently from others. We have an extensive list of recommended brands on our site. Most major national brands and grocery store brands work great, but some specialty brands have mixed results. Try a different brand if it seems like the above tips are not producing an easy to slot and delicious hot dog.
    6. As many SLOTDOG fans have mentioned, there might be a learning curve of a few “less photogenic” hot dogs, but once you get the hang of it, a whole package can be slotted in only a couple of minutes.

If you have followed the above instructions and are still having difficulties: Contact us for a replacement unit.

    1. SLOTDOG is not intended for use on these types of uncooked sausages or products with casing. Are you unsure? Check the ingredient list on the package for “natural casing” or “collagen casing”.
    2. SLOTDOG is not recommended for any uncooked sausage and results vary widely when there is a casing on a hot dog (some can be slotted on one side).
    1. Extra large or thick hot dogs need extra attention. First, make sure they are cold and skinless as mentioned above. We suggest placing hot dogs in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before slotting to further improve results, especially when using All Beef and Jumbo hot dogs as they need to be very cold and firm due to their size and consistency.
    2. On extra long or thick dogs, exaggerate the left-to-right tilting of the slotdog to start cutting the dog from the ends and work towards the middle. After rocking left-to-right while pushing a few times, you can push all the way to desired depth.
    1. SLOTDOG is made to cut average hot dogs to the correct depth. On very small or thin dogs, do not push SLOTDOG all the way down to avoid making small pieces.
    2. For small/thin hot dogs we recommend only slotting one side.
    1. Check the blades for damage. There should be shiny edges sharpened on both sides. As mentioned in the SLOTDOG listing, this help text, and on the package, the hot dog must be cold and it must be skinless/no casing.
    2. The hot dogs must be Cold and Firm directly from the fridge; warmer hot dogs will be too soft to slot and may squish. Place hot dogs in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before slotting to further improve results, especially when using All Beef and Jumbo hot dogs.
    3. Place hot dog on a firm surface, like a cutting board (not on a grill or cooking surface). 1. The best way to clean is in the Dishwasher:  Place SLOTDOG on the top rack with blades facing downwards and do not use the “heat dry” option.
    2. No Dishwasher? Soak for a few minutes in hot soapy water and scrub gently with a brush or spray with a faucet nozzle to clean.
